Our Week In Review (8/31 - 9/4)

This week in middle school we continued explore this trimester's thematic unit of "Identity." This includes reviewing the literary element "characterization" and other related elements/devices that an author or reader would use to analyze a character. We are identifying and analyzing examples of characterization in various texts and film clips. Students are practicing making claims about a text and providing support and explanation.

On Friday students learned about Howard Gardner and his theory of multiple intelligences. My hope is that throughout the year my students will continue to learn about themselves, their strengths, and how to use those strengths to support all areas of learning.

We also completed most of our Genius Hour pitches. I am so proud of how each child was able engage in research, identify appropriate sources, organize their ideas for presentation, and stand in front of a group of peers and adults to do their pitch. They are such a great group of kids!

A student treats the crowd to some pre-show music for Genius Hour! Below three students pitch their Genius Hour ideas to an audience of peers and other DGS teachers.

6th, 7th, and 8th graders share feedback for Genius Hour pitches.
