Sustainability at a Glance

Happy February everyone!

While Punxsutawney Phil may have predicted six more weeks of winter, we've been lucky enough to enjoy a little spring preview over the past few days! And with warmer weather just around the corner, we’re excited to share some exciting news!

The creek is officially open for students to explore and enjoy! This week in Sustainability, we reviewed safety guidelines to ensure that everyone can have fun while staying safe in the space.

The creek has experienced some changes since the last time students were down there, so there’s plenty to discover!

One of the reasons I love taking students to the creek is that it may look like free play, but it’s an incredibly rich learning experience. As students balance on logs, cross bridges, and explore the terrain, they’re testing their limits and building new skills. The muddy and shifting ground helps them improve coordination, while they learn to trust themselves and feel more confident in their abilities.

The creek is also a space where students connect with nature, building a deep respect for the world around them. They’re learning to be aware of their boundaries for safety and discovering a sense of independence in the process.

While they’re having fun, they’re also constantly problem-solving and thinking creatively. From investigating the shapes and textures of leaves to learning about how water flows and tracking animal prints, the creek provides endless opportunities for exploration and discovery.

Looking ahead, students will spend a lot of time in the creek this spring for different studies, and I couldn’t be more excited about the learning and growth ahead!

Also, don’t forget that students can enjoy creek play every day during recess so make sure to send in a change of clothes because it’s bound to get muddy, but in the most fun way!

Jumping into muddy puddles and loving every second!

I hope you’ve enjoyed this photo dump of the kiddos in the creek! Let it be a reminder to us all to get outside, embrace nature, and not worry about getting a little messy!
