I wanted to share a quick blog about a unique project middle school is creating over the course of the school year.
It started at the very end of last year, actually, when a graduating family handed me a bunch of yarn that had been sustainably dyed; its original purpose had been a climate art project tracking daily temperatures. As they were leaving, they suggested I use it instead to gauge emotions of students.
At the beginning of this year, I asked Mr. Matt to please help us since he weaves and I do not. I can't even crochet! He immediately brought in a loom, and our emotional tapestry was born. As we've gotten the hang of daily weaving, Mr. Matt has transferred us to a slightly larger loom. When finished our tapestry should stretch over ten feet and record our daily ebb and flow of middle school emotions.
Every day, each student places one strand of yarn into the tapestry; we have a variety of colors representing a range of emotions on a spectrum.
